Sydney The Dimarco Series Book 2 edition by Jennifer Hanks Romance eBooks Reviews
Again with the mixed feelings. While I did like Sydney more than I did Lucy, I did have conflicting thoughts. I totally get why Sydney shies away from relationship. She has a pretty crappy past. Especially where Danny is concerned. But she seemed a bit too meek to me. Always looking down and whispering. Have a spine for goodness sake! Then she gets mad at Cam for lying to her, with reason, but then hypocritically does the same thing. Cam was probably the only who could help and make sense of the information she was getting. But she decided to not tell him.
Cam also caused some mixed feelings. He was truly interested in Sydney and was caught between wanting to finish his case and pursuing Sydney for real. i really felt for him in this dilemma. But i really didn't get why he had to cut off his family. They didn't even know if he was alive! And he had to have known that because he was in contact with one brother. That was pretty crappy.
Despite what it may seem, I actually did like it. Jennifer Hanks is pretty good at intrigue. The story lines a pretty interesting, even though there are some weak plot points. And boy can she drop a cliffhanger like nobody business!

I love the Dimarco family! The value of family, loyalty, and protecting those they love comes through in spades with this family. The suspense keeps me on edge turning page after page, anxious to see what will happen and how everything will work out. The romance keeps me swooning and cheering for the HEA I know is coming, but must be fought for.
Cam’s story is a little bit different as he is separated from the rest of the Dimarcos for part of the book. Silly as it may sound, I missed them. However, so did he. I could feel the gaping hole in his heart and life with each and every page. That said, he was a man on a mission. His focus on justice was admirable, but at times I wanted to yell at him, because he was digging his hole with Sydney deeper and deeper. He was stubborn to say the least, but when he fell, he fell hard and it was so satisfying to watch. He, like the rest of the Dimarcos, was loving and so protective once his barriers crumbled.
Sydney was fantastic. She may have had baggage from her previous relationship, but she loved fiercely and would stop at nothing to protect those she loved. I love how hard she made Cam work for her. I also loved that she was so, so strong regardless of everything she had been through. Refusing to be a victim, she was determined to be the hero.
My heart often broke for both of these characters. They are both survivors, and it made me cheer them on even more. If two characters ever deserved a happy ending, it was these two for sure. Their chemistry was off the chart, and once they joined forces, they were unstoppable.
I love that the supporting characters in these books play a role just as key as the main characters themselves. Hanks has an amazing talent for showing just how important relationships are. She leaves me longing for more (and not just from the Dimarcos) at the end of each book. While each of these books could be read as a standalone, I love reading them in order and seeing the development across this group of family and friends throughout each book.
I’m working my way through the DiMarco Series by Jennifer Hanks.
SydneySydney is the second book in the DiMarco series and features the DiMarco brother Cameron, twin of Christian from Lucy’s book. Cameron is working a long-term undercover assignment with the FBI trying to take down a local drug kingpin. Sydney is the ex-girlfriend of the target and Cameron is to get close to her to find out what she knows.
Sydney owns a coffee shop with her best friend Maddie. Her parents were killed in a car accident and her only family is her brother Liam. Liam and Maddie had helped her escape her abusive ex-boyfriend and move away to get out of his reach. She hasn’t dated since Danny, but when Matt (Cameron) walks into her coffee shop and asks her out, she can’t deny their connection.
The DiMarco family members have a lot of drama! Cameron hasn’t seen his siblings in two years. They don’t know if he’s dead or alive, until he hears of Jake’s baby being born and lurks outside the hospital to get a bit of news. Luke, because his case as a detective intersects with the FBI investigation, knows what Cameron is doing but must keep the secret as well to protect their large family.
Cam and Sydney have an intense relationship. So far all of their women are strong, fiery women who don’t back down from an argument and the DiMarco brothers all have strong personalities, too. Syd’s reaction to learning Cameron’s true identity is explosive. She doesn’t forgive easily. Especially since the FBI think her beloved brother is involved in Danny’s organization. The investigation comes to a head, and the ending made my jaw drop.
What I liked Lots going on. There weren’t any slow, draggy parts. Syd and Cam are both good characters. And it’s always good to see more of the DiMarco clan, especially the patriarch.
What I didn’t like Sydney’s game playing was Not. Cool. She was acting like a high schooler with her “he did this so I will too” justification except her “this” involved an FBI investigation and people’s lives. I get that she wanted to help her brother, but her methods were wrong.
Overall Good book! And the ending of the epilogue had me starting the next book immediately. Whoa!
I loved this book as much as I did the first one, and can't wait for the next one!
The second book draws you in note than the first!!! I don't know how I'm going to be patient enough for the rest of the family stories! Amazing story telling with the right amount of passion and incredible family stories! Love this family and want to be a part of it!
